Black Dog Ride

By Natalia Tanti

In Australia, it's estimated that 45 per cent of people will experience a mental health condition in their lifetime. Defence and Emergency Services personnel are twice as likely to experience mental illness due to the challenging and demanding nature of their work. This year I am joining 'Black Dog Ride' to Tasmania to raise awareness of depression and suicide prevention, and help raise much needed funds to provide training in 'Mental Health First Aid' to the Defence and Emergence Services personnel so that they can recognise and assist a colleague/friend in crises. From my experience in the Defence and as a volunteer fire fighter, I've seen first hand the amazing work these people do to keep our communities safe and free from harm, so let's do our best to support them!
