Black Dog Ride Tasi 2017

By Daryl Brough

My name is Daryl Brough. I am supporting the Black Dog Ride. The focus of this charity is to help  an awareness of depression and the prevention of suicide. This is made possible through the love of motorcycle riding and along with hundreds of other riders we come together with the one common goal, and that is to make people aware of this illness. This is not just an excuse to jump on my motorbike and go for a ride. Yes I enjoy riding, but also my Dad was a keen motorbike rider through his early years. My dad took his own life 25 years ago at the age of 55, through suicide after suffering years of depression. This was 3 days before I married my wonderful wife Tracey. The word depression was not widely used back in my Dad's day, let alone acknowledged or even understood. Even today depression can be ignored, more out the lack of understanding. Two years ago, I joined hundreds of riders from all over Australia and we all rode from our locations to Uluru. The ride itself was such an experience. What was more the experience and eye opener, was the number of stories that were heard along the ride from other riders or people we met along the way. It was very common to just start having a chat with someone at a service station along the ride who we didn't even know, yet they had a story relating to depression, either personally or they knew someone who suffered from depression or took their own life through suicide. Through the ride, I have made some life long friends. This year we are travelling to Tasmania. I am looking forward to catching up with other riders who I have met previously and looking forward to meeting new people both on the ride and along the way as we start conversations. We leave on Saturday 28th October for a two week ride. Please support this worthy cause and support me through donating. Every amount counts both small or large. Every cent I raise goes direct to Black Dog Ride. The ride itself and all associated costs is fully funded by myself. The ride will be not only to remember my Dad by, but also a very close friend who also took his life several years back. Thanks for your consideration. Daryl Brough
